Cloud will 'dominate' in move to a more digital world

Jan 16 2012, 16:51 PM

The cloud will be a dominant force in the move towards a more digital world, it has been claimed.

According to Alcatel Lucent New Zealand chief technology officer Kurt Rodgers, cloud computing will become increasingly popular as companies need to store large amounts of data.

"The lack of this capability combined with the desire to access the same digital content across multiple devices will necessitate a trend towards cloud computing and storage," he told Computer World New Zealand.

He added that he also thinks there will be a shift to a "distributed cloud model" where digital content is stored much closer to the user rather than in an offshore data centre.

Other trends Mr Rodgers highlighted for the coming year include a shift towards ultra-fast networks and an increased interest in tablet computers.

According to Datapipe, this will be the year which sees cloud computing becoming increasingly mainstream.
