Data quality functions 'should be consolidated'

Jul 27 2010, 15:12 PM

Data quality functions need to be consolidated at many organisation.

This is the suggestion of Data Quality Pro founder Dylan Jones, who wrote that he often comes across "huge waste" at many enterprises in this area.

He stated that it is not uncommon to find "multiple data quality products, disparate data quality teams and no unified strategy" in place at many of the companies he visits.

Mr Jones suggested that "massive gains" can be made by centralising data quality and the provision of a well-defined set of services that use one license framework for the whole organisation.

Earlier this month, CIO commentator Suresh Nair advised that companies work in a proactive manner on the issue of data quality.

The writer stated that preventing problems before they occur is much more preferable to attempting to find solutions when issues arise and assessing data quality standards is an important step in this process.
