Oracle encourages corporate social networks

- Nov 26 2008, 00:41 AM

Oracle is encouraging businesses to invest in corporate social networking tools, as a way of increasing productivity in the workplace.

The software provider is talking up the potential of programs that replicate sites like Facebook, insisting that they connect staff across organisations and supply chain businesses they deal with.

Specifically, Oracle sees an increased role for collaboration between staff on the sales side of a business and has been promoting its customer relationship management (CRM) software in New Zealand this month.

Simon Banks, Oracle's Asia Pacific general manager for CRM, believes the arrival of collaboration tools in the workplace will spark innovation.

He told the NZ Herald: "CRM technology has never really cracked this nut of helping people have conversations with their customers, so that's where we see a big future based on Web 2.0, based on social networking."

Earlier this month, the latest IDC end-user survey revealed that the adoption of CRM software in Asia Pacific is "gaining momentum".
