Technology 'amplifying' businesses

Jan 24 2012, 17:25 PM

Technologies such as cloud computing and data management are being used to amplify businesses, according to industry analyst Gartner.

A survey by the company found that technology is increasingly being seen as an enabler of innovation and that businesses are keen to experiment with new developments despite budget restrictions.

"Effective leaders use technology, which includes IT, to strengthen the customer experience and eliminate costly internal distortions,” Mark McDonald, Gartner Fellow and group vice president for Gartner’s Executive Programs CIO group, said.

"They are using technology to ‘amplify’ the enterprise.”

A number of recent surveys and studies have pointed to cloud computing as the technology of 2012 with companies wanting to make their operations more cost effective and efficient.

The study saw 2,335 chief information officers from across the globe being questioned about their plans for 2012.

Those located in the Asia Pacific region were found to be more optimistic than most  with a 3.4 per cent budget rise predicted compared to a global average of 0.5 per cent.
