Data Migration

Definition

Data migration is the process of transferring data between storage types, formats, or computer systems. Data migration is a key element to consider when adopting any new system, either through purchase or new development.

Data migration can be achieved by an automated migration, freeing up human resource and reduce error. Changes in computer systems and solution upgrades or when systems merge (such as in a merger/takeover) will lead to a requirement for data migration.

To achieve an effective data migration procedure, data on the old system is mapped to the new system providing a design for data extraction and data loading.

The Experian QAS solution

Rolling out new software applications and synchronizing databases can be a time-consuming, administrative nightmare. Migration is often not considered until late in the roll out of a new system which can lead to delayed project deadlines, costing you in time, resource and money.

When merging databases data can be incorrectly formatted, important data can be lost and project timeframes severely delayed. The risk associated to these types of problems can be high and costly to an organisation.

QAS for Data Migration is a set of products, data and services which when combined can dramatically improve the migration process.
